When you get a domestic violence charge the decision will be made whether it is to be treated as a felony or misdemeanor. You will likely be held in jail until you can appear before a judge. If the victim wants a no-contact order issued that is what will happen. The decision will be made whether to file charges and you will go to trial. Only the prosecutor can decide to drop the charges before your court hearing.
